On behalf of the CUHK Alumni Association of Greater New York, I would like to offer to the CU Convocation the following three comments with respect to the proposed CU Council Reorganization Structures. Our comments are based on suggestions from concerned members of our executive committee as well as alumni in New York.
1) Due to the history and background of the four constituent colleges (Chung Chi, New Asia, United and Shaw) and their fiduciary responsibilities to safeguard each individual colleges’ endowment funds and real capitals, both inside and outside of the CU Campus, it is absolutely necessary to keep the 8 College Trustees (2 from each college) and the 4 College Heads.
2) Due to the unique and complexity of the alumni association structures of the existing four constituent colleges, it is imperative that at least 2 members be elected by the Convocation on the Council, and
3) Among eight higher education institutes in Hong Kong today (see the chart provided by the CU Secretariat), CU is the only one with no Student Union representative on the Council. This must be amended to elect at least one student representative for the purpose of having the opportunity to voice constructive opinion for all major CU policies and proposals that will affect the well-beings of students. In addition, the CU Council also presents an excellent environment for top notch leadership training and development of our future alumni.
Thank you for your consideration.
With best regards,
CUHK Alumni Association of Greater New York
