候任校長有關放置「六四」紀念銅雕問題的聲明

（網頁編者按）就中大校園內放置「六四」紀念銅雕的爭論，候任校長沈祖堯於6月7日與記者見面，表達個人見解，各大報章均有報道，事後中大校方發出以下聲明。由於聲明的中、英版措詞略有不同，故此將兩版本同時轉發如下。看來候任校長和中大校方正努力挽救各方面對大學的批評。

致各位校董、同事、同學、校友：
候任校長沈祖堯教授昨天會見傳媒，隨後發表了以下聲明：
『我是行政與計劃委員會成員，我們是一個團隊，有關行政與計劃委員會的決定我一直知悉及支持。我亦會與所有同事共同承擔責任。
關於六月二日大學發出的聲明，我絕對知悉，並同意當中的立場。當日我只是就聲明中的措詞提出意見。
事後看來，我覺得我們由於經驗不足，時間短促，在處理這份聲明上可以更清楚地將行政與計劃委員會會上討論過的不同考慮因素列出，可能會有助我們與同 學的溝通。但事實上我們所有同事已為整件事作出最大努力。 』

To: Council Members, Colleagues, Students and Alumni
Following the meeting of Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor Designate, with the media yesterday, the press statement below was released.
"As an AAPC member, I was well informed about and supportive of the AAPC's resolution. We work as a team. I will shoulder the responsibility together with my colleagues.
I was completely aware of the statement issued by the University on 2 June and I stand by it. The suggestions I gave were only on the wording of the statement.
In hindsight, I think we at the university were inexperienced in handling the matter and time was very limited. Perhaps we could have better articulated in the statement the various considerations discussed at the AAPC meeting. Doing so could have enhanced our communication with students. That said, all our colleagues did already try their very best in handling the case."
